Hose Bib Installation And Repair

It goes by a few names: hose bib, outdoor faucet, sillcock. Whatever you call it, it is the hardest-working tap on your house, and one of the first to fail. At South Surrey Plumbing, we repair and install hose bibs across South Surrey, White Rock and Langley.

Signs yours needs attention

A drip from the spout that never quite stops. Water leaking from the handle or running down the siding when the tap is on. A handle that is stiff, loose, or spinning. Or the spring surprise: a wet basement wall the first time you water the garden.

That last one is the classic BC failure. Water left in the line over winter freezes, the pipe splits inside the wall, and nothing shows until you turn the tap on in April.

Repair, or replace with frost-free

A worn washer or seal is a quick repair. A split or corroded bib is not worth patching, and that is actually an opportunity. A frost-free hose bib shuts the water off inside the heated part of the wall, so the part exposed to winter drains dry instead of freezing.

We will tell you honestly which one yours needs. If a repair does the job, a repair is what you get.

Before the cold comes back

The cheapest hose bib fix is a fall habit: disconnect the garden hose before the first frost and let the tap drain. A hose left attached traps water in the line, frost-free or not. Our blog walks through the whole routine: Winterize Your Hose Bib: 4 Steps Before Frost.
